Engine Control and Monitoring

Air-Fuel Ratio Modules

ECM offers four high-quality AFR modules suitable for applications where a display is not required. Modules AFM1500 and F/A1500 output AFR (or FAR) via a 0 to 5V linearized analog signal and AFR, FAR, Lambda, and %O2 via a SMB (Serial Measurement Bus) interface. The SMB interface allows serial communication with as many as sixteen modules using a single RS-232 type serial port from a computer. Modules AFM1000 and F/A1000 output AFR (or FAR) via a 0 to 5V linearized analog signal. All four modules measure AFR using UEGO (Universal Exhaust Gas Oxygen) sensors. The UEGO sensor has revolutionized AFR measurement because of its wide range, fast response, and ease-of-use. The sensor consists of a spark plug-sized electrochemical cell which is placed directly in the engine's exhaust. The cell responds to O2, CO, H2, and UHCs in the exhaust to determine AFR and FAR (inverse of AFR) for fuels of any composition. All four of ECM's AFR modules can perform field calibration of the sensor using ambient air.
